Club News

YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!

Your Club is in urgent need of volunteers to fill vacant posts on the Committee, which are currently being covered by existing Committee Members doubling-up on their responsibilities.

Ours is a strong and vibrant Club, but without a full complement of volunteers on the Committee to run it, the Club will struggle to survive, so please get in touch if you feel you are able to help.  We were fortunate to get volunteers to take over as Secretary and Webmaster at our recent AGM (many thanks to David Reeve and Steve Langton), but are still outstanding volunteers to fill the posts of UK Rally Secretary and Public Relations Officer/NEC Show Organiser, so please do think about whether you can help your Club in either post.

As for next year, we have received notice that our Chairman John Weir and Post ’54 Spares Secretary Richard Monk both wish to retire from their posts at the 2025 AGM, so please also consider if you are able to help with these vacancies from the next AGM.

NEWS: DVLA Review report is “subject to new Ministers’ approval”
It has been confirmed to the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC), that the Cabinet Office-led inquiry into the DVLA has been concluded, and a Final Report, including recommendations has been produced.
In a message to FBHVC updating it with progress, the Department for Transport (DfT)  Review Team thanked the FBHVC for its “engagement with Janette Beinart and the DVLA Review team which has informed the recommendations of the final report.”
It adds: “The Review has now concluded but as you will understand, the General Election has impacted the publication of the final report.
“The report is subject to approval by new Ministers and we will update you in due course.”
It follows the General Election on 4 July and the appointment of Louise Haigh MP as the new Secretary of State for Transport.
The review, launched on 26 July 2023, assessed the DVLA based on the four pillars set by the Cabinet Office of efficiency, efficacy, accountability and governance.
Janette Beinart, non-executive director of the Cabinet Office and National Highways, and previously vice-president and global chief information officer at Shell International, led the review with support from a team of officials within the DfT.
At the time Ms Beinart intended to submit a report of her findings, including a series of recommendations, to Transport Ministers in Spring 2024.
The review was announced after the FBHVC had applied considerable pressure to government over a range of issues about how the DVLA deals with historic vehicle registrations, following an apparent change in its attitude and procedures.
