As a member with a lot of experience of the Morris Minor but very little knowledge of the bigger versions and particuarly the 6/80, I would be very greatful if anyone could reccomend any books that are availiable to enlighten me. I am particuarly interested in how the bodywork is constructed and put togeter compared with the Minor. Also of interest would be any photos anyone could email me of bodywork restoration in progress. Many thanks
Laurence

assist those concerned with the rectification of accident damage‘ (priced at 10 shillings in 1952!). They’re still be around at autojumbles, but a bit of a rarity I guess. Apart from the diagrams on the download site, there are a couple of useful blown-up diagrams in the manual, which I’ll scan & send to you – maybe Henk could add them to the downloads?
Hopefully someone else will be able to send photos of bodywork restoration – the most I’ve ever done to mine fortunately (apart from the sill work you see on the download) is to take a rear wing off for repair!
Good luck – I’ll email the diagrams asap.

7 February 2007 at 12:31 pm #52477Bob FrancisMemberI’m very slowly getting on with the restoration of my MS and I’m photographing everything as I go, with the intention of producing a restoration photo CD/DVD along with texts explaining how I did it. I’m not an expert and many who have already been along the same road will maybe say ” I’d have done it like…etc” but I’m learning as I go along and I’m asking loads of questions and getting a lot of help from club members. Thanks. That’s what the club’s for or what? So, if it’ll help, I’ll submit some of the photos, “A” post rebuild, front wings off, sills stripped off etc (as I get to them okay?) and get Henk to put them in downloadable compressed form on the website. Be patient but “watch this space!”

6 April 2007 at 8:44 pm #52478Bob FrancisMemberIn a day or two there will be pictures of the nearside wing A and B posts inner wing and sill available. Paul Sinclair in Stuttgart is stripping the MS for me and is sending the photos one by one as he does it. He says it’s better to scrap it but it’d break my heart if it went to the breakers so I’ve been down on my knees to beg. If he can find any metal to weld the new stuff to then he’ll try.
Enjoy the rust!

It’s a big file and you’ll need Adobe Acrobat to read it as it’s in pdf format. You can download this too from the same page.
Have fun and try not to laugh or cry.
Thanks go to Paul Sinclair for saving my car. I thought I’d be able to do it myself but having seen how bad it was, I now realise I would never have coped with it. Call me mad if you will, you’re probably right.

27 May 2007 at 10:23 am #52480AnonymousMemberHi Bob read through your work so far last night, what a great bit of writing keep up the good work and let us know when you’ve finished your cd please. 28 May 2007 at 5:09 pm #52481Bob FrancisMemberDear Mr anonymous, thank you for your kind words. I envisage another, shorter write up as part 2 of the restoration but as the drivers side, although not quite as bad as the passenger side, -says Paul- is basically a repeat of the same process, to go over it again would seem futile. There has been a lot of progress however but it will be at least October or November this year-or even January next before I can go to Paul’s again to retrieve the old girl, and then I’ll be stripping her down again to rub down and prepare her for painting which I’ll do myself, once again…hopefully… at a friend’s warehouse. I would think that the CD may be ready by March next year so be patient and I’ll post another note here when it is. If you’re interested in seeing other photos of what’s going on, then I hope to have another short text ready in a couple of months which will be available in the downloads section. Thanks to all of you who have shown so much interest, and of course, once again to Paul Sinclair for his magic, and patience, and sarcastic e-mails. It keeps me on my toes.
Bob.
