Formation of the Morris Vehicles Association

Following the successful collaboration in the run up to the Morris Centenary celebrations between representatives of various Morris Vehicle Clubs, a general consensus emerged that the links established should be built upon and maintained as a lasting legacy of what was a memorable and widely acclaimed joint effort.

The idea of establishing an Association of Morris Car Clubs was mooted during the initial Centenary group meetings held in 2011, but it was decided at that time that the emphasis should be on the organisational aspects of the various events planned to mark the centenary. Having said that the idea was never far from the minds of the club representatives who attended the meetings and there was encouragement from a number of clubs for a plan to be formulated to enable the formation of an association to take place.

In November 2013, Ray Newell from the Morris Minor Owner’s Club issued a proposal document as a first step in that process which contained a number of suggestions and proposals which were offered for consideration and further discussion by individual Morris Club committees in advance of an inaugural meeting to be held on Sunday 9th March 2014 at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon.  This was attended by representatives from the following clubs:  Morris Minor Owners Club; Morris Register; Morris Commercial Club; Morris Marina Owners Club and Morris Ital Register; The 6/80 and MO Club; Morris Minor LCV Register; Wolseley Register; and Cornwall Morris Minor 1000 Club.

The following clubs were also represented / supported the formation of an Association:

Pre War Minor Network (represented by the Morris Register); Cowley Oxford Owners Club (represented by the Morris Minor Owners Club); Post Office Vehicle Club.

From this inaugural meeting, the MVA was officially formed, & on this page you can read about its further activities, after the formal issue of the Press Release below in July 2014, announcing the Association’s formation.

PRESS RELEASE

JULY 2014

ASSOCIATION OF MORRIS CLUBS ESTABLISHED

Following the tremendous success of the Morris Centenary celebrations in 2013 during which representatives from most of the UK based Morris clubs worked together to stage a number of spectacular events, a new Morris Vehicles Association has been formed.

The aim of the Association is to maintain and enhance the level of co-operation which culminated in the final event of the centenary year when all the Morris clubs were represented in the same hall at the National Exhibition Centre and staged the award-winning Centenary Stand.

In addition, the MVA hopes to stage an annual event which will be open to all Morris vehicles and derivative models, provide a forum for discussion of topics of common interest and maintain a steady exchange of information and ideas.
