Spares are the bane of everyones life. Some people have none, some people have a garage full but you can bet your bottom dollar we all need something we haven’t got.

The club is here for lots of things apart from just spares. We are scattered all over the world and have managed to produce some spares, source others and probably prayed for still more. Thats why the web site is here, thats why this forum is here and club subs go towards this, thats why the magazine is here, thats why we have various bodies on the committee striving to be all things to all people, and no it does not always work.

But we do try, the club means different things to different people but it’s still about the car at the end of the day. Colin PRO

Hi all, I would like to proffer another side to this, if I may.

In recent months, I have replied to two adverts on this website which asked for spares which I happened to have. On neither occasion did I receive the courtesy of a reply. I find this disheartening; I currently have some useful parts available but I’m more likely to advertise them in Classic Motor Monthly because I’ve had very good results from this paper in times past. I don’t ‘do’ ebay, not for selling things anyway.

Writing as someone who has served on a car-club’s committee (not this one) in the past, I wanted to make the point that there are two sides to every situation. I have sympathy for those who have to juggle resources of time & expenditure chasing very small numbers-off being made by manufacturers. These firms aren’t keen on our business because of the tiny quantities we require for our rare cars, & this adds greatly to the difficulties of procurement. This very often results in long delays between placing an order for a part to be made “soon”, & its actual appearance. If club-members don’t reply to letters written to them it’s not at all encouraging to those trying to help them with parts.

I don’t have an answer to these problems; I did want more of the picture to be visible though.

And it goes both ways. I was contacted by a company recently, who offered to provide rear road springs. After providing them with the relevant spring dimensions, courtesy of several committee members they have not had the courtesy to respond. And it was them that started the ball rolling.
